5 servings per box
Prepare in microwave or on stove top (the preferred method) for a warm meal.
Microwave
1. Combine 5 ounces of water and contents of one packet into a medium-sized microwave-safe bowl.
2. Microwave on MEDIUM (50%) for 4-6 minutes. (Microwave ovens vary; adjust time as needed.) This tends to boil over. Put bowl under to control spilling. We have experimented and have had success at 80% power.
3. Remove from microwave, stir and let stand for 1-2 minutes.
Stove-Top:
1. Combine the contents of one packet and 6 ounces of warm water in a medium size saucepan. Stir thoroughly.
2. Bring to a low boil over medium heat. Reduce heat and simmer uncovered 6 to 8 minutes, stirring frequently, until slightly less than desired consistence. The oatmeal will continue to thicken upon standing.

I am pretty dissatisfied with the recent changes made to this product. The texture has significantly changed from the previous oatmeal; it now contains oat flakes instead of a finely ground powder, resulting in a gummy consistency when cooked. Additionally, the cooking instructions only have microwave directions. As I do not use a microwave for these meal replacements due to past experiences with explosions at even the lowest setting, I’ve had to experiment with stove-top preparation. It seems that 1/4 cup of water yields the best results, but the product still retains a gummy texture.
Also, I have noticed an increase in pricing. There are now only 5 packets in a box at $2.54 per packet, compared to the previous 7 packets for $2.42 each. This change means I am receiving less product for a higher cost. Unless there are improvements or a return to the previous formulation, I won’t be purchasing any future orders.
